As alumni, we are not always good about giving back to our school in the traditional sense. Whether you are just starting your career as a new grad, or you are inching closer to hanging up your Wacom, you know that the world is a rapidly changing place. Programs change, technology advances, and industries come and go.
However, the friendships and connections that we have made, see us through the hard times, and lift us up into the great times. We are strong together and forever connected by our shared experience.
As Texas Alumni, we have an opportunity to give back AND directly lift up a deserving young artist, with our Texas Alumni Challenge: the Rising 'Lone' Star Scholarship. This Scholarship aims to cover the expense of sending one student a year to the Rising Star summer program at SCAD.
The Rising Star program gives this high school junior two college credits and a portfolio worthy of applying to SCAD, or any college art program of their choice. This experience can be life changing to a student who otherwise would never have the opportunity for such a world class program.
Our own Texas SCAD Alumni put forward, and choose a single student to support each year. Any Alumnus/Alumna can nominate a student, and voting will be sent to all Alumni each year to declare a winner. Look for announcements here regarding nomination openings, voting, and winners.
We do hope that you choose to support these deserving kids each year. You never know how far they may go.
